The aim of this project is to develop an advanced distribution network planning model to cover, at least, a geographical area similar to a Spanish province. The results provided by the model will be used to determine the remuneration of Spanish distribution companies. Due to the size and complexity of distribution networks together with the impact of geographical data on distribution costs, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques and advanced planning algorithms based on heuristics have been implemented. This model overcomes the detected deficiencies of current planning tools.
